The Unicoi County Apple Festival, consistently named one of the Southeast Tourism Society's Top Twenty Events of the Southeast, will be held October 3rd and 4th, 2008. Unicoi County is known by many as one of the finest apple growing counties in the Southeast. The Unicoi County Apple Festival began in 1978 as a way to celebrate the local apple crop. The festival is a celebration and presentation of the unique heritage, foods, crafts and culture of the Southern Appalachian region. This tradition continues today as thousands gather each fall for the annual event.
Over 350 craft and food venders from around the country line the festival grounds. Crafts including pottery, quilts, handmade jewery, woodcrafts and candles were among the many items for sale during the event. There are two food courts offering a large selection that should satisfy any tastes. Two stages provide continuous entertainment, and a children's area featuring games and rides, including large inflatable rides.
The Blue Ridge Pottery Show and Sale is also held during the festival. The show draws collectors from around the county looking for hard to find pieces and beginning pottery pottery buffs looking to start their collection.
