On Friday and Saturday, October 2 and 3, a record-breaking crowd of more than 100,000 attendees filled the streets of downtown Erwin for the Unicoi County Apple Festival.

The 2009 festival included more than 350 vendor spaces (25 of which were newly created for the 2009 festival), four entertainment stages, one of the largest Children's areas in the festival's history, and all of the other events that makes the festival so popular including the NFS Road Race, the UT Extension Service Cooking Contest, the Valley Beautiful Beacon Picture Perfect Photo Contest, and the Farm Bureau Tennis Tournament.

So many attributes of this year's festival added to its excitement and flair. Entertainment abounded during the two days as attendees filled the stage areas for music, dance and performances. Always a main highlight during the festival, the entertainers on the Toyota Gospel Stage kept seats packed. The addition of two more stages to the festival grounds proved to be successful as spectators filled the new stage areas both days.

Consistently named one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 events in the southeast and a three-year winner of the Northeast Tennessee Tourism Association’s Pinnacle Award, the premier two-day event offers something for everyone -- handmade crafts, antiques, entertainment, a large children’s area, a Blue Ridge Pottery show and sale, contests and a smorgasbord of food!  The 2009 Unicoi County Apple Festival will undoubtedly prove to be another award winning event.
